After your welcome and introduction, local wine expert, sommelier and patron of L'enoteca wine club, Patrick Piccioni, delicately decants your first glass of Umbrian wine as a prelude to a wonderful wine week ahead.

Day 2: The Wines of Carlo Massimilliano & Ursula Gritti, Niccone Valley
The portrait of Andrea Gritti, the 16th Century Doge of Venice, adorns the I Girasole di Sant’ Andrea wine named Muda offering a clue as to the quality of the wine.
The Girasoli estate dates from 1994 when Carlo Massimiliano Gritti and his wife Ursula purchased land in Valle del Niccone and bought I Girasoli di Sant’Andrea, ( The sunflowers of St. Andrew ) bringing together a unique family history and rural Italian wine.
While the main focus is on wine production, the estate is also involved in the cultivation of tobacco, and the production of extra virgin olive oil, under DOP Colli del Trasimeno status.
Following the death of her husband, Ursula took on the management of the estate. Today she cultivates the varietals of Friulano, Trebbiano, Grechetto, and Pinot Nero, in combination with Sangiovese, Malvasia, and Petit Verdot, Merlot grapes being the queen of reds.

Day 3: Avignonesi | Wines on the Edge
Our route takes us to the border of Tuscany and the Montepulciano wine area. A major part of the 175 hectares of vineyards that form the Avignonesi estate is in Tuscany!
Sangiovese wines have been produced on this site for centuries, and the state-of-the-art winemaking facilities today take a back-to-basics, no un-natural intervention approach that biodynamic viticulture entails.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the famed founder and force behind the iconic car company, came from a farming background and following his exit from the Lamborghini company in 1974, Ferruccio returned to his roots and established the Lambuorhini Wine Estate.
Take the day to taste wines, play the 9 hole golf course, swim or take in the Umbrian sun.

Day 5: The Family Goretti Wines
Cycling along the shores of Lake Trasimeno, this huge silver expanse of water dominates everything. We stop for a light lunch and wine tasting courtesy of the Family Goretti. Julia or Sarah, the Goretti sisters are usually on hand to guide us through their grandmother's cookbook, the incredible wine collection not to forget their wine-based beauty products.
This is a wonderful family business and experience.

Day 7: Sagrantino and the Wines of Montefalco
We’ll take you for a short ride today to experience one of Italy’s best and lesser-known wines - Sagrantino.
The terrain surrounding the village is delightful and the village itself an Italian dream.
You will want to spend an hour or two just watching the world go by from your seat in the piazza, clasping a Sagrantino.

Delight in the imagination and extent of the wines, beers, grappas and brandy produced by this family, not to mention the Winetherapy products or Nonna Marcella‘s lite lunch with olive oil, cold cut meats, cheese and fresh tomatoes.

The Raleigh Motus Grand Tour
Umbria is known as the ‘green heart of Italy’ and sits in the shadows of the spectacular Apennine Mountains.
Whilst much of Umbria’s terrain is a little higher than its Tuscan neighbour, the valleys tend to be longer, wider and more forgiving making for more comfortable cycling enabled by the Raleigh Motus Grand Tour.
The cool valley breezes of the dry Umbrian summer months create an ideal cycling climate and distinct and unusual wines not often found outside of the country and this memorable cycling terroir.

| Am I fit enough? |
| The Umbria for Wine Lover’s cycle requires 1 to 2 hours of cycling per day. Electric Bikes do not give you a free ride. You need to pedal. While the eBike makes things much easier, you still require a reasonable level of fitness. The fitter you are, the greater your enjoyment. The oldest person that we have had is Geoffrey who at 84 years of age. The youngest was 12 years. |
| How busy are the roads? |
| Italian roads tend to be much quieter than people are used to. The vast majority of your itinerary is along quiet country roads. There is one exception – crossing the Assisi valley. The first 3 or 4 miles (30 mins maximum) is through a small town. |
| Is this trip for me – I don’t cycle regularly? |
| We strongly recommend that you put in a little time on a bike before you arrive. The fitter and more comfortable you are on a bike, the more you will get from your vacation. |
| Whats happens to my luggage? |
| Each transfer day sees your luggage moved by our support vehicle from one hotel to the next. We provide you with luggage labels. |
| What should I wear? |
| You do not need a whole wardrobe of special cycling clothes! Our eBikes have a very comfortable Gel Saddle and a suspension seat post. Despite this, you might choose to wear padded cycling shorts/skirts for extra comfort. Our eBike Leaders wear padded underwear, which we think is more flexible than the padded short. You can then choose to wear this with your favourite shorts. And yes, there are ladies versions too! A few well-chosen items will help keep you cool/warm and comfortable on your eBike trip. Sun cream and a neckerchief or scarf are a very good idea.
Footwear – You need a pair of shoes that are resistant to weather and have a good grip. They should also be comfortable for walking. Our eBikes do not use the cleat system. |
| Do you provide Helmets? |
| Yes, we provide helmets and it is included in the price. |
| Do I have to wear a helmet? |
| No, you don’t. It is not a legal requirement to wear protective headgear. If you choose not to wear a helmet, that is entirely your own decision and choice. |
| What is provided with the bike? |
| – Water Bottle & Holder – Each bike is equipped with a handlebar-mounted water bottle holder and water bottle. – A Rear View Mirror is fitted on the bike to help you keep the group together and improve safety. – Pannier – each bike is fitted with a single safari pannier. There is sufficient room for wallet, cameras, sun cream etc. – Wet Weather Cape – yes, it does rain, occasionally. We provide a high-quality bike cape for each rider. – Battery Charger – each bike has a battery charger. – Power Adapter – to make charging easier. – Spare Inner Tube – we don’t expect you to fix punctures. We provide a replacement inner tube. – Pump – you have a small, portable pump for roadside emergencies. Each hotel keeps a large air pump. – Hi-Visibility Jacket – in case of roadside maintenance, we provide you with a Hi-Vis jacket. – Security Cable – to lock your bike. | What should I carry with me? |
| Each day you need to carry, Passport, Insurance Documentation, Cash for the day, Credit/Debit Cards, Change of clothing to anticipate changes in weather. |
