Villa Del Capitano, San Quirco d’Orcia, Tuscany

NIGHT 3 & 4

“Everything seems to be chosen so the guests feel relaxed and comfortable. We loved the classical music playing in the halls and the art. San Quirico d’Orcia is really charming and with fewer visitors than other towns.”

San Quirico d’Orica. If you don’t know the name, you will recognise the scenery – it is straight out of the film Gladiator (literally)!

Bike trips in Italy
Castello di Leonina, Siena/Asciano, Tuscany and its extra-ordinary swimming pool

Castello di Leonina, Siena/Asciano, Tuscany

“Unbelievable panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside from the 13th-century castle. First class service. The restaurant is a wonderful gem …”

There are just 11.2 miles between you and Siena. You may be tempted to take a taxi ride. But then, once you’ve smothered yourself in ‘Leonina’s’ weighty silence, you’ll probably just want to absorb the view from the unusual swimming pool and watch the sun slip behind the Siena towers.

Le Caselle, Lucignano, Tuscany has a very popular restaurant

Le Caselle, Lucignano, Tuscany

“Very cosy bed and breakfast. Very nice people running the place. There is also a very nice restaurant. Recommended for everyone who wants to taste the true Tuscany.”

Lucignano is a classic Tuscan hill top town and ‘Le Caselle’ sits just outside of the medieval centre. In a car, it is easy to miss this corner of the Val di Chiana Tuscany, thus it is somewhat quieter than its neighbours.

“I started e-biking after a hip operation. I had an initial idea that biking would involve staying in youth hostels. Far from it! This was really up market - great hotels, fantastic food and serious wine.”

“Ian and I loved your guided e bike holiday around Tuscany. It was beautifully organised with every little detail thought of, including the most perfect lunch stops and, of course amazing hotels!”

Sir Ian & Lady Collett

“Just wanted to let you know that we had an excellently enjoyable E-bike tour with Tim last week and to provide you with some feedback. The tour is very well planned and organised in all respects: the route which largely is on quiet roads through the absolutely beautiful countryside; the villages/towns that we visited which gave us real insights into rural Italian life in this region of Italy; the mix of hotels, all comfortable and family-run; and, of course, the very good wine and food.

The e-bikes are brilliant, very well-engineered, and what I really enjoyed is that you can select to give yourself as much physical challenge as you want, but, with e-assistance, you can climb significant inclines for long distances which only expert and extremely fit cyclists would otherwise manage. The itinerary is also perfect, including the rest day in the very interesting and worthwhile Assisi.

I thought I would also add a comment about the guided versus the self-guided decision. We were very uncertain whether to opt for the guided or the self-guided, but having opted for the guided tour we now realise that there are some significant advantages, which are not that clear from your information.

These advantages are...

- Tim knows various interesting small paths and “white roads” which you would never find on a self-guided tour, which adds interest.

- Potential difficulties with navigation are removed and should there be a mechanical issue with a bike, expert help is immediately on hand.

- All the decisions are made for you – the details of the route, where to eat and have coffee, and even advice on exactly what to choose to eat, so it is all very easy on the brain!

- Tim’s local knowledge and stories add a dimension that you would not otherwise get.

- Tim’s easy-going personality also made for a very enjoyable holiday.

So, all in all, this is a great product. Please pass our best wishes and great thanks to Tim, Louise and Matteo.
