Louise’s passion for the outdoors and animals was sparked growing up on the family farm in Yorkshire in the 1960s.
“Horse’s were my first love,” says Louise. She competed in local Hunter Trials, Gymkana’s and Pony Club events. Tennis was the ‘family game’. “I remember the games on the lawn being very competitive!” she recalls. Louise represented her schools at tennis, St. Andrews Girls school and she was the first girl to play tennis for the then mostly boys school, St. Peters school in York.
Always rather rebellious and adventurous, she developed an interest in flying at 18 and discovered that Hang Gliding was a way in which she could fly her own ‘aircraft’. This became an all-consuming passion and she took a years break from her career in banking to pursue her flying goals.
Quickly progressing and developing her skills, she was soon flying at a World level and represented Great Britain a number of times. Louise was a member of the winning British Team at the 1987 World Championships in France, and consequently, Louise holds an FAI Gold medal.
Through Hang Gliding she met her husband Tim and together they devised and co-led an expedition to fly along the Kenyan Rift Valley by Hang Glider, at the same time pioneering aero-towing – there are not many more arduous places to prove something! Their exploits were filmed by the BBC for their Classic Adventure Series in 1992.
Louise’s interest in skiing developed around the same time and she recounts that it was the two years spent living in upstate New York that cemented this, with the opportunity to ski every weekend.
Today Louise enjoys leading both ‘Dolomites Ski Safaris’ and ‘eBike Tours’ through Tuscany and Umbria and in particular enjoys seeing people achieve personal bests and build their confidence through active adventures.
