Antica Gabella is such a wonderful treat. A total contrast to the villa's and castles that we usually stay at. None the less, as great a pleasure and just as comfortable.
As you enter the old town of Castiglione del Lago through the gate, ride into the piazza and a short distance along the narrow side road. Antica Gabella blends into its surroundings. Once you are inside, it is a different world.
Lovingly decorated with care and consideration. Everyone comments about the ceiling.
Eating
Antica Gabella is a bed and breakfast. Being at the heart of the old town, there is a great selection of restaurants within 100-150m, ideal for a casual supper or something more formal.

A simply wonderful taste of Italy!!
We stayed at Antica Gabella for three nights during our road trip holiday which we have just returned from.
What a wonderful treat! This is simply a beautiful place to stay! We had a two bed apartment (although we only needed one room), and it really felt like home from home - we were very sad to leave!
The apartment itself had everything we needed and more. Lovely touches of welcome cakes, towels wrapped in ribbons, a beautiful breakfast basket delivered to your door.... all made for a super relaxing and memorable stay! The apartment itself was traditionally Italian which was lovely to experience.
Benedetta, Giovanna and Sylvano are wonderful hosts. Sylvano was a huge help to us in finding our way into town and showing us the free parking areas - a real personal service! Nothing was too much trouble for any of them, and they are a wonderful family who were a delight to meet!
The location of Antica Gabella is perfect. Not only is the town of Castiglione del Lago beautiful both evening and daytime, but it is also in a perfect location to explore Tuscany and Umbria.
All in all a wonderful experience, and one thing is for certain - we will be back! Thank you!
On the Shores of Lake Trasimeno
Being marginally smaller than Lake Como in the north, Trasimeno is Italy's fourth largest lake and the largest in the peninsular.
History abounds here .... WWII, Hannibal, art, aircraft building, Etruscans and so on ...
Once the fourth island of Lake Trasimeno, the old town of Castiglione del Lago is quiet and delight to spend time in. Wander down to the shore and enjoy the views.
The Coloriamo i Cieli / Colour the Skies festival is held on no fixed date in late April or May. Held annually it includes light aircraft, hot air balloons and thousands of multi coloured kites.
