Cycling holidays in Italy | Choose Your Bike

.. cycling holidays in Italy and e-Bike cycling holidays in particular are amazingly enjoyable

Posted in the eBike Tours collection on 17th April 2020

F

or casual cycling holidays, Italy is a tough venue! Tuscany and Umbria are very hilly! And although I was never a serious cyclist, I looked forward to riding my bike through rural Italy.

Then a good friend convinced me to try an e-Bike. I was totally unprepared for the immense and overwhelming emotion that the experience gave me! Immediately I saw that cycling holidays in Italy and e-Bike cycling holidays, in particular, would be incredibly enjoyable.

Getting on the e-Bike was, indeed, 'just like riding a bike' yet, at the same time, it was anything but!

Electric bikes are remarkable enablers. Today I ride thousands of kilometres every summer leading guided cycling holidays, touring Tuscany by e-bike and as the Our Umbria tour guide.

I ride the Haibike Cross along the white roads of Umbria or the race the Lapierre along the ridges of the Val d'Orica, the experience is always delightful, challenging and deeply rewarding.

Tim Hudson.

Why would I choose to ride one e-Bike over another? Here is why...

A Bit More Detail

The new Lapierre e-Xelius 600 SL Disc Carbon e-Road Bike perfectly integrates the Fazua e Road Bike motor drive system while limiting the frame empty weight to 1.65 kg, one of the lightest e road bikes around.

With a design based on the first-generation Xelius SL Disc chassis, the frame retains its sporty spirit with excellent stability born of its base length and its wheelbase. While always seeking the best compromise for achieving lightweight and retaining the same stiffness, the frame and the fork use UD SL carbon and reinforced head tube, diagonal tube and the pedal spindle.

POWERED by FAZUA e ROAD BIKE | THE LEGS OF PRO

Compact, lightweight and quiet, the Fazua e Road Bike Evation Drive System (EDS) is compatible with a conventional double crankset. This ensures that you retain the standard power offered by a 22-speed road bike.

The Fazua EDS also offers the advantage of being easy to use thanks to its handlebar control for choosing one of three assistance modes: Breeze, River or Rocket and of course the unassisted mode.

The battery/motor drive unit produces …

  • 125 watts (Breeze)
  • 250 watts (River)
  • 400 watts (Rocket) ... for a good dose of boost on the steepest inclines

The battery has a capacity of 250 Wh that is perfectly suited to road use. The Fazua Evation Drive System has another advantage, that of offering no pedal resistance when the motor is off or as soon as the assistance cuts-out in excess of 25 kph. You will feel just like you are riding a conventional road bike, offering the same level of pleasure without any hindrance born of unnecessary friction.

If you feel like it, you can also remove the battery/motor drive unit and use the bike quite normally, reducing its weight to 10.3 kg while making the most of the dynamic performance, stability and comfort of the e-Xelius SL.
