Travellers Tales

Del Capitano, San Quirco d’Orcia, Tuscany

Everything seems to be chosen so the guests feel relaxed and comfortable. We loved the classical music playing in the halls and the art. San Quirico d'Orcia, is really charming and with less visitors than other towns

an Quirico d'Orica. If you don't know the name, you will recognise the scenery - it is straight out of the film Gladiator (literally)!

San Quirico d'Orica

Incredibly, there is a recognised 'footpath' from Canterbury in the UK to Rome and on to Jerusalem. It is called the 'Via Francigena' and it runs by the front door of the hotel Villa del Capitano. You may catch the walkers as they stroll by early in the morning.

In the 10th century, the 'Via Francigena' was used by the then Archbishop of Canterbury to travel to and from Rome. He recorded his route and his stops on the return journey.

San Quirico d'Orica is one of the best conserved medieval hill top towns in Tuscany. Surprisingly it is quieter than its Val d'Orica contemporaries. None the less, it is as beautiful, interesting and vibrant as any which is why can spend two nights here on your eBike itinerary.

We use three hotels in San Quirico d'Orcia, all owned and managed by the same family.

Located a few meters from the medieval town wall, Villa del Capitano Luxury Art & Relais is a classic 18th century renaissance style villa.

Hotel Palazzo del Capitano Exclusive Wellness & Relais

A XIV century palazzo in the very heart of San Quirico d'Orcia.

The Palazzo del Capitano has its own Mediterranean gardens. Amongst the olive trees, aromatic shrubs, lavender and pergolas of wisteria and jasmine are vegetables growing happily along side the ornate fountains. Pull up a lounger and relax.

All 20 guest bedrooms are decorated with a traditional style, with wooden-beamed ceilings, antique furniture and terracotta floors. Each room has satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. Free minibar, a bottle of wine and prosecco are available in the guests' room. there is a seasonal, outdoor pool. The hotel offer free WiFi.

Dimore del Capitano

Set in an old Tuscan house a few meters from the famous Collegiate church of San Quirico.

Dimore del Capitano is a personal favourite. It is away from the typical hustle and bustle of the hotel. Yet straight onto the street and into the town, just 150m from the piazza and its wonderful bar!
