ubbio is so overlooked. Guests often ask, 'why is this place so quiet?' It is a good question. But for now, take advantage of it and explore this wonderful medieval town and the Hotel Relais Ducale.
The Piazza Grande [shown above], is the largest suspended piazza in Italy. And it is huge! It is the front terrace to the Hotel Ducale bar as well.
I love to see guests faces as we ride onto the piazza Grande. The views from here across the valley are wonderful, framed by stone building masterpieces. The we sit at the bar and drink in the atmosphere, watch the world go by and contemplate our day.
The Relais Ducale has 30 guest bedrooms arranged over 5 floors. Weather and conditions permitting, we use the rooftop terrace for breakfast. It is just a wonderful way to start the day.
All rooms have Air conditioning and free WiFi although I wouldn't want to rely on it!
A few surprises
Gubbio is definitely worth exploring. Close by the hotel is the Cathedral of Gubbio, Palazzo dei Consoli Palazzo Ducale. But you must try the Funivia Colle Eletto - the Gubbio cable car.
It takes 6 minutes to climb from the heart of Gubbio (532 m asl) to the Basilica of S. Ubaldo (803 m asl). Here the patron saint of the city, Sant'Ubaldo is kept and where the Three Ceri rest all on top of the tallest Christmas tree in the world!
